OKLAHOMA SCREENWRITER TO ADAPT CHEROKEE THEMED WILL TO WIN MOVIE.
Aaron Fulkerson, a Cherokee Nation Citizen, is the screenwriter for the movie adaptation from the Jim Stovall novel Will To Win.
Set in present day, the Will To Win movie is a high school baseball drama featuring appearances by the storied Will Rogers. The lead character is a Native American teen girl who lives with her more traditional Native grandmother. When the softball team is cut, she joins the boys’ baseball team, seeking advice from her spirit guide, Will Rogers, as she navigates myriad challenges.
Mr. Fulkerson says “the high school baseball story is layered with Cherokee tradition along with a modern aesthetic.” Additionally “the opportunity to bring the iconic Will Rogers to current generations in a way not seen, is an extraordinary responsibility.” Executive Producer Andy Kinslow said “Mr. Fulkerson possesses an impressive ability to connect story to the iconic Will Rogers, while respectfully showcasing Cherokee traditions and the Nation’s current, modern existence."
