Midthunder Casting

Angelique Midthunder began her career in casting in the mid-1990s after working internationally as an actress and discovering more of an intrigue for the casting process than for being in front of the camera. In addition to casting every character type, Midthunder has developed a special niche for casting Indigenous roles and prides herself on preserving authenticity and integrity in cultural casting while recognizing the value of creative freedom.

With an eye for talent in both actors and filmmakers, Midthunder Casting has enjoyed working with the top Indigenous directors and creators including Taika Waititi (Next Goal Wins, Frybread Face and Me, Reservation Dogs), Sterlin Harjo (Reservation Dogs), Sydney Freeland (Echo, Rez Ball), and Tricia Wood (EVP of Casting, Paramount).  Midthunder has been nominated for an Emmy for her work in casting and for multiple Artios awards.

Los Angeles based Indigenous casting director Stacey Rice has worked in casting for over 10 years and was recently nominated for an Artois Award alongside Angelique Midthunder for the groundbreaking casting of FX Network’s Reservation Dogs. Stacey is the daughter of an enrolled Tuscarora tribal member and passionate about Native culture and storytelling. She’s worked on various films and television shows including the Emmy-nominated series Euphoria (HBO) and American Crime (ABC), as well as The Leftovers (HBO), MaXXXine (A24), We Can Be Heroes (Netflix) and Rez Ball (Netflix). In 2021 she was nominated for an Artois Award for her casting for Wireless (Quibi). Her casting experience and personal background has led her to specialize in Native American/Indigenous casting and working with Native writers, directors and storytellers. She was selected by the Casting Society of America for a prestigious mentorship program based on her passion for authentic representation of Native people and communities in the media especially as it relates to Television & Film.
